SC2/Synergy Racing is a Chicago-based team of multi-discipline athletes who just love to push hard & win. New in 2009, the team was hand-picked for Primal Quest, and other 3-10 day adventure races.
The Teams Philosophy:
The team’s goal is to promote the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the growing sport of Adventure Racing. To accomplish this, the team applies focus to four principle areas of performance to maximize teamwork and the competitive edge: Mental Strength, Physical Fitness, Racing Strategy and Racing Technology. Each focus area is a pillar for success and the team spends time and focus on each area, just as they do on every discipline of the sport.
The Team:
Rob Guidry

Rob lives in Chicago where he is President of SC2 Corporation, a defense strategy consulting group, and is a Colonel in the Army Reserve. Rob recently moved to Chicago from Ft Bragg, NC where he served in the special operations community, and is a husband and proud father of two boys. With four combat deployments since 2001, Rob is no stranger to adversity and feeds on challenge.
Rob’s addiction for expeditions started in his early teens, and has only grown with the years. From riding across the southern states as a youth, to solo-trekking some of the hardest jungle and mountain terrain in Central America and the U.S., Rob is a solid endurance athlete. Before joining special operations, Rob was a scout pilot, and Jungle Expert and uses this experience as the teams primary navigator. Rob is also an accomplished Road/Mountain Biker and Adventure Racing Athlete.
Matt Kiely

Matt is a native of Chicago, and currently resides with his family in the suburb of Lombard. Since serving in the Marine Corps, Matt has held several positions in the financial markets and currently works as an Institutional Sales Trader for E*Trade Financial. As a veteran Marine and now a Trader, Matt is no stranger to stress, but welcomes it.
As an avid outdoorsman and competitive Triathlete, it has been a natural transition and true partnership between Matt and adventure racing. Matt brings extensive racing experience to the team and is the team’s expert in water and paddle sports.
Erik Rassmussen

Erik is the strongest runner on the team and what you don’t see in the picture is the bungee cord that Erik uses to pull any team-mate who needs a little tow. Erik is owner-operator of Erik’s Adventures, an adventure travel company that operates tours in some of the most extreme & beautiful terrain in the world. Erik is an avid runner and endurance athlete and completed this years Boston Marathon in 2:44, despite a serious headwind of 15+ MPH.
Jill Pierce

Jill Pierce is a young 36 year old athlete. Born in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado it’s in her blood to race. She has been racing for fun for over a decade in both short and long course triathlons. She has completed numerous marathons and half marathons. Be careful what you say around Pierce though, she holds a brown belt in karate. Jill is also Founder of a very important organization entitled, Moms on Mountains (www.momsonmountains.com). It’s a local charity that does great things for children with cancer. Jill has a degree from George Mason University with a BS in Nursing. While residing in Fairfax County, she was a volunteer firefighter and EMT at stations 17 and 38. She was also a PADI Rescue Diver.
